India to Open Embassy in Timor-Leste

During her historic visit to Timor-Leste, President Droupadi Murmu announced that India will soon open an embassy in the country to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance consular services for Indians residing there. This marks the first presidential visit from India to Timor-Leste, where Murmu received the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation's highest honor. She underscored the importance of shared values of democracy and pluralism that bind the two nations and described Timor-Leste as one of Southeast Asia's most vibrant democracies. Murmu praised the small but active Indian community in Timor-Leste for its role as a 'living bridge' in fostering relations between the countries. She reiterated India's commitment to support Timor-Leste's development journey, emphasizing the historical bond that dates back to India's early recognition of Timor-Leste's independence in 2002.
