Eight Killed in Mogadishu Beach Attack
An explosion at Lido Beach in Mogadishu, Somalia, late Friday resulted in at least eight fatalities and 28 injuries, according to Dr. Abdikadir Abdirahman of Aamin ambulance service. The attack, attributed to the militant group al Shabaab, coincided with a busy night when locals were enjoying the beach. Reports indicate that security forces killed five assailants, while a sixth detonated an explosive device. Witnesses described seeing bodies on the beach and an attacker with an explosive vest. Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire expressed condolences and condemned the attack, highlighting the terrorists' hostility towards the Somali people. Al Shabaab has a history of targeting public places in its campaign against the government, despite being pushed back in recent years.
