President Xi Jinping Discusses China's Future, Reunification with Taiwan

In his New Year's Day address, President Xi Jinping discussed China's achievements in 2023 including sports and tourism accomplishments, and the popularity of local football games and festivals. He also touched upon the country's focus on innovation, advancements in fields like AI, renewable energy, biotechnology, and the expansion of the Belt and Road Initiative. However, Xi also asserted the necessity of China's reunification with Taiwan, stating it would surely be achieved through unity among the Chinese people. This has heightened tensions between China and Taiwan, and strained China's relations with the West, particularly over the Taiwan issue.
