Nubia Gonzalez, the former treasurer of the Association of Parents and Teachers (APT) linked to Scottsdale's Cocopah Middle School, has been accused of stealing over $36,000 from the group's bank accounts shortly after gaining control in June 2024. The APT president discovered the accounts were drained upon her return from a trip on July 2, prompting an investigation that revealed substantial withdrawals made between June 28 and July 1. Gonzalez turned herself in to Scottsdale police on August 13 after being sought by authorities for several days. The total loss was confirmed to be $36,512.09, with bank documents showing Gonzalez signed each withdrawal slip. Investigators found that Gonzalez provided a false address to the school district and had disconnected her phone numbers. At the time of the alleged theft, she had four children enrolled in the district.
