Final Train Cars Arrive for LAX People Mover
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has received the final four train cars for its Automated People Mover (APM) project, marking a significant milestone in the airport's multi-billion dollar modernization effort. The APM, which now totals 44 cars, aims to improve passenger experience, reduce traffic, and connect the airport to public transit with six new stations. Initially approved in 2018, the project has faced delays and budget overruns, with the current completion date set for December 8, 2025, and operations expected to begin in January 2026. The Los Angeles City Council recently approved an additional $550 million to cover unexpected expenses and settle legal claims. The APM will be the first in the U.S. to use INNOVIA 300 APM cars, featuring sustainable technologies like recyclable aluminum shells and regenerative braking systems. Once operational, the system will run 24/7, with trains arriving every two minutes during peak hours, significantly reducing traffic and shuttle trips at LAX.
