EAM stamp in Laos
During his visit to Laos, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith jointly launched a special commemorative postage stamp set, marking the world’s first stamp depicting Shri Ram Lalla of Ayodhya. The stamp set, consisting of two stamps, also features Lord Buddha from Luang Prabang, celebrating the shared cultural heritage of Ramayana and Buddhism between India and Laos. Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Laos' hospitality and witnessed the signing of MoUs for 10 Quick Impact Projects under the Mekong Ganga Cooperation. The visit is part of Jaishankar's participation in ASEAN mechanism meetings, reflecting the longstanding civilizational ties between the two nations. The theme of the stamp set highlights the importance of Buddhist connections and the revered status of the Ramayana in both cultures. Jaishankar also addressed issues of trafficking of Indian nationals during discussions with Laotian leadership.
