Police Officer Hospitalized After Brick Assault

A police officer in Blackpool was hospitalized with a significant head injury after being struck with a brick during an arrest on Chesterfield Road. The incident occurred on Friday evening while the officer was apprehending two men as part of a robbery investigation. Ryan Mann, 30, of no fixed address, has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist arrest and is set to appear in court. A second suspect, a 37-year-old man from Preston, was also arrested on suspicion of robbery. Assistant Chief Constable Karen Edwards condemned the attack as completely unacceptable, emphasizing the dangers police officers face daily. Both suspects remain in custody for questioning, and the police have assured that the officer will receive full support during recovery.
