Japan's Takanori Nagase secured his second consecutive Olympic gold medal in the men's under-81 kg judo at the Paris Olympics, defeating Georgia's Tato Grigalashvili. Nagase's victory by ippon adds to his previous gold from Tokyo 2020, making him the first to win back-to-back titles in this weight class. In the women's under-63 kg judo, Andreja Leski of Slovenia won her country's first gold of the Paris Games by defeating Mexico's Prisca Awiti Alcaraz. Bronze medals in the men's under-81 kg were awarded to South Korea's Lee Joon-hwan and Tajikistan's Somon Makhmadbekov, while Laura Fazliu of Kosovo and Clarisse Agbegnenou of France took bronze in the women's under-63 kg. Additionally, the U.S. women's gymnastics team, led by Simone Biles, won gold, with Italy earning silver and Brazil taking bronze.
