Secret Service inspector general
The Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General is conducting a review of the Secret Service's security procedures following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. President Joe Biden has also initiated an independent investigation into the security breach. The Secret Service is under scrutiny for allowing a gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, to get within close range of Trump and shoot him, despite prior threats to Trump's safety. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle acknowledges the security failure and pledges full cooperation with ongoing reviews to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
