Elon Musk's AI chatbot

Election officials from five states have called on Elon Musk to address misinformation spread by his AI chatbot, Grok, on X (formerly Twitter), particularly regarding 2024 presidential election ballot deadlines. A letter signed by secretaries of state from Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington, and New Mexico highlighted that Grok falsely claimed deadlines had passed in nine key states, including Michigan and Pennsylvania, leading to widespread misinformation. The officials emphasized that the opposite is true, as ballots remain open for changes. Despite Grok being available only to premium subscribers and carrying a verification disclaimer, the misinformation reached millions. The letter urged Musk to implement changes similar to those used by other AI models, such as ChatGPT, which directs users to official election resources. Concerns about the potential impact of AI-generated misinformation on voter perception and behavior have been growing as the election approaches.
