Chad Opens Consulate in Moroccan Dakhla

Chad has inaugurated a Consulate General in Dakhla, Western Sahara, demonstrating its support for Morocco's claim over the disputed region. The ceremony, attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Chadian Minister Abderaman Koulamallah, marks the realization of a commitment made by Chad in September 2022. This addition brings the total number of foreign consulates in Western Sahara to 29, reflecting a growing diplomatic backing for Morocco's sovereignty. The consulate is expected to facilitate consular services for Chadian citizens and enhance bilateral trade and cultural relations. Both nations emphasized the historical ties and mutual support during the inauguration, underscoring the importance of this diplomatic gesture in strengthening their relationship. The event coincided with the anniversary of the recovery of the Oued Eddahab region, adding symbolic significance to the occasion.
