Court Orders Confiscation of Mishra's Assets

The Vigilance Confiscation Court in Bhubaneswar has ordered the confiscation of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 5.86 crore belonging to Subash Chandra Mishra, a former engineer of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The confiscated assets include two double-storeyed buildings, one single-storeyed building, three plots, bank and insurance deposits, shares, and over 2.5 kg of gold ornaments. Mishra was charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act for possessing assets disproportionate to his known income, following an investigation that began in 2004. The court's decision comes after a thorough hearing, with representation from the Odisha Vigilance Directorate. The investigation revealed significant discrepancies between Mishra's income and his amassed assets, leading to the confiscation order. The Odisha government has implemented special courts for efficient handling of such cases involving public servants.
