Olympians get paid
The 2024 Paris Olympics are in full swing, with prize money for medalists varying significantly across nations. Countries like Taiwan and Singapore offer substantial rewards, with Taiwanese athletes eligible for up to NT$20 million (approx. US$608,700) for gold medals, while Singaporean gold medalists can earn US$737,000. Conversely, countries such as Great Britain and New Zealand do not provide financial incentives for medalists. For the first time, World Athletics will award gold medalists in athletics a prize of $50,000. Additionally, Fiji's government has announced awards of $50,000 for gold medalists and $20,000 for silver medalists. Australian athletes receive between $10,000 and $20,000 depending on the medal, but can only claim one payment regardless of the number of medals won.
