John Lee to visit Hong Kong
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has embarked on a six-day visit to Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam to promote Hong Kong's developments and explore new business opportunities. This marks Lee's third trip to ASEAN countries since taking office, highlighting the importance of economic ties, as ASEAN is Hong Kong's second-largest trading partner with bilateral trade reaching $144.6 billion last year. The delegation, which includes over 30 representatives from various sectors, aims to strengthen government-level communication and seek support for Hong Kong's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Lee emphasized Hong Kong's role as a 'super-connector' between the mainland and the world, leveraging relationships with the three nations, which collectively have a population of over 120 million. Meetings with local political and business leaders will focus on promoting Hong Kong’s unique advantages and exploring collaboration opportunities in infrastructure and professional services. The visit is expected to enhance trade and investment connections, benefiting both Hong Kong and the ASEAN member states.
