Turkish airstrikes PKK
Turkish security forces have successfully neutralized 19 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq through coordinated operations, targeting the Hakurk, Asos, Gara, and Metina regions. The Turkish Ministry of Defense emphasized the intent to continue rapid and unconventional operations against terrorism, indicating ongoing military efforts in the region. Additionally, a Turkish drone strike near Sulaymaniyah resulted in the deaths of a senior PKK member along with his driver and a guard, highlighting Turkey's active military engagement against the PKK, which has been a longstanding adversary since 1984. The PKK has been accused of using northern Iraq as a base for planning attacks against Turkey, contributing to tensions between Ankara and Baghdad, especially regarding sovereignty issues. As part of its strategy, Turkey aims to eliminate PKK threats and has hinted at intensified operations in the summer. A recent security pact was signed between Turkey and Iraq to address the PKK's activities in the region.
