Ukraine Wins Four Medals at Paralympics
On the opening day of the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Ukrainian athletes secured four medals, comprising two silver and two bronze, all in swimming events. Anton Kol won silver in the men's 100m backstroke (S1 class) and Iryna Poyda earned silver in the women's 200m freestyle (S5 class). Anna Hontar and Oleksandr Komarov contributed bronze medals in the women's 50m freestyle (S6 class) and men's 200m freestyle (S5 class), respectively. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes across 17 sports, with over 23% making their Paralympic debut. Meanwhile, Zakia Khudadadi from the Refugee Paralympic Team made history by winning bronze in taekwondo, becoming the first athlete from this team to medal, highlighting the resilience of refugees. After the first day, China led the medal standings with four golds, while Ukraine ranked 17th.
