Gabby Thomas Wins Gold in Women's 200m
Gabby Thomas won the women's 200 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics, securing her first Olympic gold medal with a time of 21.83 seconds. She outpaced Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who took silver, and American Brittany Brown, who won bronze in a tightly contested finish. This victory ends a 12-year drought for American women in the event, the last being Allyson Felix in 2012. Thomas has had an impressive season, winning eight of her nine 200m races leading up to the Olympics. Additionally, Cole Hocker achieved a stunning upset in the men's 1,500 meters, capturing gold with an Olympic record time. Overall, the United States has now won five gold medals in athletics at the Paris Games.
