India Commissions Second Nuclear Submarine INS Arighat
India commissioned its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arighat, at a ceremony in Visakhapatnam attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This addition strengthens India's nuclear triad and enhances its strategic deterrence capabilities. The 6,000-tonne submarine, armed with K-15 missiles with a 750 km strike range, will operate under India's strategic command. Singh emphasized the importance of self-reliance in defense and commended the synergy of the Indian Navy, DRDO, and the industry in achieving this milestone. INS Arighat is an upgraded version of INS Arihant, featuring advanced design and indigenous systems, and is part of a broader four-SSBN project to bolster India's naval capabilities.
