Laura Kelly Named Chair of Democratic Governors Association

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has been appointed as the new Chair of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) following Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's resignation after being selected as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate. Kelly, who has served as vice chair since December 2022, emphasized the importance of electing Democratic governors, citing critical issues such as reproductive freedom, democracy, and voting rights. She expressed gratitude for Walz's leadership and noted the DGA's fundraising success, which raised $61 million from January to June. Kelly aims to leverage her experience in tough races to support candidates in 11 upcoming gubernatorial elections alongside the presidential race in November. The DGA is optimistic about Kelly's leadership as they focus on key issues that resonate with voters in the final months of the election cycle.
