South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former President Jacob Zuma for supporting and campaigning for a rival political party, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), which significantly reduced the ANC's parliamentary majority in the recent elections. Zuma's actions were deemed irreconcilable with the ANC's constitution, leading to his expulsion after disciplinary proceedings. Zuma has 21 days to appeal the decision. The ANC's Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, stated that Zuma's conduct has impugned the party's integrity and threatened social stability. Zuma, who was previously suspended in January, now leads MK, which secured 14.5% of the vote and 58 seats in the National Assembly. The ANC, weakened by its poorest electoral performance since coming to power, had to form a coalition government for the first time in three decades.
