Italian Fighter Jet Crashes During Training Exercise

An Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon crashed during Exercise Pitch Black 2024, a major multinational military training event taking place in the Northern Territory of Australia. The pilot successfully ejected and was airlifted to the Royal Darwin Hospital for medical checks, where he was reported to be in good health. The crash occurred in the Douglas Daly region, and the cause of the incident is currently unknown. Following the accident, all flying operations for the exercise were temporarily halted. This exercise, featuring over 140 aircraft and participants from 21 nations, is significant as it marks Italy's first involvement with its deployment of various aircraft, including F-35s and KC-767 refuellers. The event is set to continue until August 2, 2024.
