Brian Steven Smith Sentenced to 226 Years

Brian Steven Smith, a man convicted of killing two Alaska Native women and recording the torture of one, was sentenced to 226 years in prison for crimes including murder, sexual assault, and tampering with evidence. Smith, a South African native turned US citizen, received 99-year sentences for each victim and an additional 28 years for related charges. Despite displaying no emotion during sentencing, Smith confessed to the crimes after a sex worker found footage of the torture and murder on his phone. The victims, Kathleen Jo Henry and Veronica Abouchuk, were subjected to horrific treatment, leading to the judge describing the acts as 'the stuff of nightmares.'
