CBI raids in Gurugram
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 43 individuals linked to a fraudulent call centre in Gurugram, known as Innocent Technology (OPC) Pvt Ltd, which allegedly duped foreign nationals by offering false technical support for computer issues. The operation, part of a broader crackdown on cyber crimes called Operation CHAKRA, involved coordinated efforts with international law enforcement, including the FBI and INTERPOL. The CBI conducted searches at seven locations across Delhi, Gurgaon, and Noida, where they intercepted live operations and recovered substantial evidence, including over 130 computer hard drives and numerous mobile devices. Victims were reportedly misled into downloading malicious software that locked their computers, leading them to make payments for supposed restoration services. The illicit proceeds from these crimes were traced to multiple countries, ultimately funneled to Hong Kong. This case highlights the growing challenges of transnational cyber-enabled financial crimes.
