NCP Alleges Surveillance of MP Supriya Sule
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has raised concerns regarding potential surveillance of MP Supriya Sule by government agencies, specifically alleging the use of Pegasus spyware ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase accused the BJP of desperate tactics to undermine Sule, following her recent electoral success, and pointed out that her husband's receipt of an Income Tax notice coincided with her criticisms of the government. Sule's phone and WhatsApp account were hacked recently, prompting her to seek details on notices from central agencies linked to her parliamentary speeches. Tapase has demanded clarification from the Maharashtra Home Department on whether any surveillance is being conducted on Sule or other opposition leaders, citing such actions as a violation of democratic principles. The NCP alleges that the BJP has historically monitored political opponents and is concerned these tactics could be ramped up in the lead-up to elections. Sule has lodged a complaint with police regarding the hacking incident, which has further fueled allegations of political harassment.
