Businessman Arrested with Illegal AK-47 in Guyana
Weston Pickering, a 42-year-old businessman from Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was arrested during a police operation after an illegal AK-47 assault rifle and a significant amount of foreign and local currency were found at his home. The police conducted the search at approximately 6:25 PM, where they discovered the AK-47 wrapped in a towel inside a washing machine, along with 29 live rounds in a magazine, 30 additional rounds hidden in socks, and six 9mm rounds in a bedroom. Pickering admitted to not having a firearm license and remained silent when questioned about the illegal possession. The seized currency included substantial amounts in Canadian, US, British, and various Caribbean dollars, totaling around GYD $1.7 million. All evidence was logged and transported to the Providence Police Station as investigations continue. Pickering is expected to appear in court later this week.
