Fake Accounts Amplify Pro-Trump Disinformation

A CNN investigation has uncovered a deceptive campaign using stolen photos of European influencers to promote Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, on social media. The investigation revealed that numerous fake accounts, including one named @Luna_2K24, have amassed thousands of followers while pushing pro-Trump messaging and conspiracy theories. These accounts, which feature images of real influencers like German fashionista Debbie Nederlof, appear to be part of a coordinated effort to influence the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Nederlof expressed her shock and frustration upon discovering her likeness used for such purposes, emphasizing her lack of connection to U.S. politics. The investigation identified at least 56 accounts using manipulated imagery and engaging in disinformation, raising concerns about foreign interference in the electoral process. Experts believe this could be just the beginning of a larger trend as election season approaches.
