Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican descent, has accepted an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa competition. Her withdrawal followed allegations from the South African Department of Home Affairs regarding potential fraud and identity theft linked to her mother. Facing social media backlash over her nationality, Chidimma expressed gratitude for the support she received from Nigerians and described her excitement about participating in what she called 'Africa's most prestigious beauty pageant.' The Silverbird Group, which organizes the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, supported her decision and shared her announcement on social media. Chidimma was born in Soweto, South Africa, and her mixed heritage sparked controversy during her participation in the South African contest.
