Suspect Dies After Kentucky Courthouse Shooting

Christopher Elder, 46, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit after he allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Erica Riley, 37, and her mother, Janet Riley, 71, outside a courthouse in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The shooting occurred as the three were arriving for a court hearing related to a protective order against Elder. After a chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Elder engaged in a standoff where he ultimately shot himself. A male relative of the two women was also shot but is in stable condition. Elder succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
