Jontay Porter Pleads Guilty in Betting Scandal
Former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a federal case related to a betting scandal. Porter, who was banned from the NBA in April, admitted to manipulating game outcomes to benefit bets placed by his co-conspirators, in an effort to resolve his gambling debts. He could face up to 20 years in prison and is expected to pay significant fines and restitution. Four other men involved in the scheme have also been charged. Porter is free on a $250,000 bond and will be sentenced on December 18. He expressed deep remorse for his actions and is undergoing treatment for gambling addiction.
