This surge follows the company's expansion into new service areas, including San Francisco, metro Phoenix, and parts of Los Angeles, with operations now utilizing a fleet of approximately 700 vehicles. Waymo is noted as the only U.S. company operating uncrewed robotaxis that collect fares, marking a pivotal moment in the acceptance of autonomous vehicles. The recent multimillion-dollar investment from Alphabet signals strong confidence in the sector, despite ongoing regulatory scrutiny and competition from firms like Tesla, GM's Cruise, Amazon's Zoox, and China's WeRide.
