Investigation Launched After Superyacht Sinks Off Sicily

James Cutfield, the captain of the superyacht Bayesian that sank off the coast of Sicily on August 19, insists he did everything possible to save those on board, amidst an investigation into potential manslaughter and shipwreck. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including British tech mogul Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah, while 15 others survived. Crew member Matthew Griffiths corroborated Cutfield's claims, stating they managed to rescue those they could before the yacht capsized due to a freak waterspout. Cutfield has since left Italy, having been provided with a copy of his passport after losing the original in the disaster, and has opted to remain silent during the investigation. Friends of Cutfield have described his emotional turmoil, stating he is enduring the 'darkest days of his life.' The investigation continues, with Cutfield and two other crew members under scrutiny, but no formal charges have been filed as of yet.
