Investigation Launched Into Allianz Stadium Drainage Issue

Allianz Stadium's pitch conditions have come under fire following a recent NRL match where heavy rainfall resulted in a waterlogged field, described by players as one of the worst surfaces encountered. The venue, which cost $828 million, received 11.5mm of rain just before the game, leading to large puddles that significantly impaired play. Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson criticized the conditions, while Venues NSW acknowledged the drainage issues as unacceptable and launched an investigation. Officials noted that the stadium has a gravel and sand layer intended for drainage, but the problems appeared to be surfacing rather than structural. The turf, initially laid in 2022, had been relaid last summer after concerns about silt levels affecting water flow. With upcoming fixtures scheduled, officials are prioritizing a review to address the drainage failures.
