RNLI 200th anniversary

The RNLI celebrated its 200th anniversary with a special photographic event called 'One Moment for One Crew', where lifeboat crews, lifeguards, and volunteers from across the UK and Ireland captured photos at exactly 6.24 PM on August 1, 2024. This initiative aimed to honor the charity's legacy of saving lives at sea, having rescued over 146,000 individuals since its founding in 1824. Anjie Rook, RNLI associate director, emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of all involved with the RNLI, from courageous lifeboat crews to dedicated fundraisers. The photographs collected will be combined into a montage to commemorate the bicentenary. Events marking this milestone included exhibitions showcasing the history of lifeboat stations, such as Fowey's, which is also celebrating its own anniversary. The RNLI's focus remains on inspiring future generations of lifesavers while reflecting on its rich history and current lifesaving efforts.
