Jameson Taillon (6-4) contributed significantly, allowing only two runs and four hits while striking out seven over six innings, effectively retiring the last 11 batters he faced. Happ's three-run homer in the fourth inning extended the Cubs' lead to 7-2, making him one of the few Cubs to hit a homer onto Eutaw Street. The Cubs' bullpen, including Tyson Miller, Mark Leiter Jr., and Hunter Bigge, maintained the lead by pitching three shutout innings.
