Amazon Selected for UK Drone Delivery Trials
Britain's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved six projects, including Amazon's Prime Air, to test drone deliveries, infrastructure inspections, and emergency services under beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) regulations. Amazon plans to launch its drone delivery service by the end of the year, allowing for package deliveries within an hour of order placement in the UK. The trials will utilize advanced technologies for navigation and aircraft detection to ensure safety in airspace integration. Other projects involve inspecting offshore wind farms and delivering medical supplies. CAA director Sophie O'Sullivan emphasized that these trials are crucial for shaping future policies and regulations for drone operations. Amazon aims to expand its drone delivery services, having already tested in the US with plans to operate in the UK and other countries.
