Bengali Director Utpalendu Chakraborty Dies at 76

Veteran Bengali director Utpalendu Chakraborty passed away at age 76 due to cardiac arrest at his home in Kolkata. Known for critically acclaimed arthouse films, including 'Chokh' and 'Debsishu', he received numerous awards, including the National Award for Best Feature Film and Best Direction for 'Chokh'. Chakraborty faced ongoing health issues, including COPD and complications from a recent fall, and was supported by close associates during his illness. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences, highlighting the significant void his death creates in the film industry. He is survived by his daughters, actress Ritabhari Chakraborty and Chitrangada Satarupa, and his estranged wife, filmmaker Satarupa Sanyal.
