Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham has agreed to a five-year, $224 million maximum rookie contract extension, which could increase to $269 million if he earns All-NBA honors. Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, averaged 22.7 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 62 games last season. The Pistons, who finished with a league-worst 14-68 record, are committed to building around the 22-year-old star, having surrounded him with veteran players and a new head coach, J.B. Bickerstaff.
