Chhattisgarh Launches Interest-Free Loan Scheme for Students
The Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has launched the 'Chief Minister Higher Education Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme' to provide interest-free loans to students from economically weaker families in Maoist-affected districts. The initiative aims to support higher education in 35 technical and vocational courses, offering loans up to Rs 4 lakh. Students eligible for the scheme must have a family income below Rs 2 lakh and maintain regular loan repayments, with provisions for a one-year extension in case of medical interruptions. Additionally, students from non-Maoist areas can access loans at a reduced interest rate of 1%. The Technical Education Department will oversee the program, which is part of broader efforts to enhance educational opportunities in regions impacted by Naxalism. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to eradication of Naxalism and promoting development in these areas.
