Poba Reserve Forest
The Assam government has announced that the Poba Reserve Forest will soon be designated as the state's 18th wildlife sanctuary, covering 257.29 square kilometers. Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary emphasized this initiative as a testament to the government's commitment to conserving natural resources and biodiversity. The sanctuary will serve as a vital migratory route for elephants, linking several significant wildlife areas, and is home to diverse species including the slow loris, capped langur, and approximately 45 species of birds and reptiles. This decision follows a demand from local MLA Bhuban Pegu and reflects the government's focus on sustainable development. The Poba Reserve Forest has historic significance, having been designated as a reserve during the British era. The establishment of this sanctuary aims to prevent deforestation and protect the ecological integrity of the region.
