The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a deep apology after mistakenly introducing South Korea as North Korea during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The error occurred as South Korean athletes floated down the Seine River, with announcers in both French and English calling them the 'Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,' North Korea's official name. South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism expressed strong regret and requested a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach, while also lodging a formal complaint with the French government. The incident, reminiscent of a similar error at the 2012 London Olympics, has heightened tensions given the strained relations between the two Koreas. The IOC has promised to take all necessary measures to prevent such mistakes in the future.
