Miami quarterback Cam Ward has been named the 2024 ACC Preseason Player of the Year, receiving 71 out of 170 votes from media members at the ACC Football Kickoff. He transferred from Washington State, where he threw for 6,963 yards and 48 touchdowns over two seasons. Miami led the conference with five selections on the 2024 Preseason All-ACC Team, followed by Florida State with four and Clemson with three. Other notable selections from Miami include wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, defensive end Rueben Bain Jr., linebacker Francisco Mauigoa, and kicker Andres Borregales. North Carolina's Omarion Hampton and Clemson's Barrett Carter were other top contenders for the player of the year honor, with 38 and 15 votes, respectively. The ACC recently announced that Miami is projected to finish third in the conference behind Florida State and Clemson.
