China has come under scrutiny again for doping violations among its elite swimmers, with two athletes testing positive for the banned steroid metandienone in 2022. Chinese authorities cleared the athletes, attributing the results to contaminated meat from a Beijing restaurant, a decision later backed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This follows a similar incident involving 23 swimmers testing positive for trimetazidine before the Tokyo Olympics, also blamed on food contamination.
