Monkeypox vaccine

The Serum Institute of India is developing a vaccine for Monkeypox, anticipating positive results within a year, as the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency. In India, around 30 Mpox cases have been reported since 2022, prompting the Union Health Ministry to increase scrutiny at entry points and designate hospitals for patient management. Bavarian Nordic announced it can provide 10 million doses of its Monkeypox vaccine, with 300,000 doses ready for immediate distribution, amid a surge in cases across Africa linked to a deadlier strain. Greece has initiated its vaccination campaign targeting high-risk groups, with a notable 160% increase in cases reported this year. In the Basque Country, five cases have been recorded in 2024, with ongoing monitoring and vaccination efforts. Health officials stress the importance of vaccination as a key tool in combating the Monkeypox outbreak.
