Matt Kemp Retires from Major League Baseball
Matt Kemp officially retired as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers by signing a one-day contract on 'Matt Kemp Day,' celebrated during the team's Alumni Weekend. The ceremony featured Kemp throwing the first pitch and making the iconic announcement alongside family, with Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis and pitcher Clayton Kershaw emceeing the event. Kemp had a distinguished career, spending 10 of his 15 MLB seasons with the Dodgers, where he became the only player in franchise history to hit over 200 home runs and steal 150 bases. After debuting in 2006, he earned three All-Star selections and was a two-time Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award winner. His final MLB season was in 2020, and he has since returned to the Dodgers in an advisory role. Kemp expressed nostalgia for the organization that gave him his big-league opportunity and reflected on his journey with the team.
