Delhi Exempts Public Vehicles from VLTD Fees

The Delhi government has announced a waiver of the annual fee for Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) for approximately 1.5 lakh commercial passenger vehicles, a significant move to alleviate financial burdens on public vehicle operators. This decision follows a Memorandum of Understanding between the Delhi Transport Department and the National Informatics Centre, which will now oversee tracking operations. Previously, vehicle owners were required to pay Rs 1,200 plus 18% GST annually, amounting to Rs 1,416. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot emphasized that this exemption aims to enhance passenger safety and security, particularly for women and children. The government has also terminated its contract with the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System for vehicle tracking, transitioning to NIC for these services. This exemption extends to vehicles including cabs, RTVs, and tourist taxis, in addition to the previous relief provided to auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers.
