The UK Government is encouraging individuals on benefits like Universal Credit and Pension Credit to verify their eligibility for higher payments, particularly for carers. In response to a parliamentary query from Labour peer Lord Keith Bradley, Baroness Maeve Sherlock indicated that the Government is reviewing support mechanisms for carers, including payment rates for Carer's Allowance. She noted that the law mandates an annual review of benefit rates, with the next assessment due in autumn for the 2025/26 fiscal year. Currently, Carer's Allowance is £81.90 per week, while additional support through Universal Credit can provide £198.31 monthly and £45.60 weekly in Pension Credit for eligible full-time unpaid carers. An increase of 6.7% in benefits was implemented in April, aligned with inflation, and state pensions saw an 8.5% rise due to the triple lock policy. This review is particularly timely amid ongoing cost-of-living challenges facing many households.
