Wrestler Amit Elor

Amit Elor, a 20-year-old wrestler from Walnut Creek, California, made history by winning the Olympic gold medal in the women’s freestyle 68kg event at the Paris Games, becoming the youngest American wrestler to achieve this feat. Elor secured her victory with a decisive 3-0 win against Kyrgyzstan's Meerim Zhumanazarova, showcasing her dominance throughout the tournament with a combined score of 18-2 before the final. The daughter of Israeli immigrants and granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, Elor's journey has been marked by personal challenges, including the loss of family members. She began wrestling at the age of four, inspired by her siblings, and has since amassed an impressive record, including multiple World Championship titles. Elor expressed her disbelief at her achievement and hopes to inspire other girls to pursue wrestling. With her win, she joins a select group of Jewish wrestlers who have attained Olympic gold.
