Federal Disaster Aid Declared for South Dakota

The Biden administration has approved federal disaster assistance for South Dakota following severe storms and flooding from June 16 to July 8, 2024. President Biden's disaster declaration enables financial resources to aid recovery efforts in 25 counties, with individual assistance available for residents in Davison, Lincoln, Turner, and Union counties. This assistance includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-interest loans for uninsured property losses. Governor Kristi Noem praised the community's resilience and emphasized the collaborative response to this unprecedented event, which has caused significant damage across eastern South Dakota. Residents can apply for assistance online or by phone, and Disaster Recovery Centers will be established soon. The federal government will cover 75% of eligible costs for local governments and nonprofit organizations involved in recovery efforts.
