India to open embassy in Timor-Leste
India is set to strengthen diplomatic ties with Timor-Leste by establishing an embassy in Dili, with plans announced by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Jaideep Mazumdar. This comes ahead of President Droupadi Murmu's first presidential visit to Timor-Leste on August 10, part of a six-day tour that also includes visits to Fiji and New Zealand. Timor-Leste has reciprocated by announcing its intention to open an embassy in New Delhi, which has been warmly welcomed by India. Mazumdar emphasized the historical and deep connections between India and Timor-Leste, noting potential areas of cooperation in IT, healthcare, and agriculture. The upcoming embassies aim to enhance the 'Delhi-Dili' connect, building upon existing friendly relations. The visit is seen as significant for fostering bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
