German Airport Protests Prompt Calls for Security
Climate activists from the group Letzte Generation disrupted operations at four major German airports—Berlin, Cologne-Bonn, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart—by gluing themselves to the tarmac and cutting through fences, briefly halting air traffic at two of the sites. The group demands that the German government sign an agreement to cease the use of oil, gas, and coal by 2030. The protests have drawn sharp criticism from Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who described the actions as 'dangerous and stupid' and called for tougher penalties, including prison sentences for those involved. Last Generation defended their actions, stating that government inaction on climate change poses a greater threat. The German airport association ADV has called for immediate legislative action to strengthen airport security against such disruptions. This incident follows a series of similar protests this summer targeting German airports.
